Examples of Information / Instructional Design

One of the best statistical graphics ever drawn to organise information would be Napoleon's March illustrated by Charles Joseph Minard which represents the losses which Napoleon's army suffered during the Russian campaign in 1812. This example of informational design shows how information can be represented in a graph using lines, colours and numbers to display scale.

An example of instructional design could be this imagery of installing an air conditioning system. Using imagery of steps to take, this image aims to show how to install an air conditioner, also providing visual information onto the parts and parts of the procedure which may not be understood with just plain print.

Informational and Instructional Design are very similar in that they both provide information which has been organised and preprared to present information in the most legitimate and easily interpreted manner. Instructional Design is essentially to teach one through imaginery where as informational just provides information.
